2. Activities:

The pastors and the religious supply copies of the Bible to the families, sharing groups or to the faithful.

More and more, the families are conscious of the important place of God’s Word in their midst. Usually, they enthrone the Bible on the main altar in the house. One project of renovation of the night prayer with Divine Word will be formed. Another project of biblical formation of the adults, so that thay can become exemplary guides to the Holy Scripture readings in the families and in the parishes.

Under the biblical dynamism, the young commit themselves more and more to serve the poor, the homeless, the HIV sick, the street children…

Numerous parishes are organizing various activities of Biblical Apostolate: classes for the Bible studies; Group Sharing; Bible Competition Examinations; Spiritual Exercises focusing on the Bible.

Lectures on Scriptures in the Major Seminaries and Intercongregational Institute for male and female religious.

Ongoing training various ways and methods of approaching God’s Word for prayer and life, especially by the Lectio Divina.

Prepare Gospel texts with simple commentaries for family evening prayer at home, more substantial commentaries for parish priests.

The official email address of the Commission remains ubkinhthanh@gmail.com. Now the number of members which have specialized formation on the Holy Scripture is increasing with 4 bishops, 17 priests and 2 sisters.

3. Publications in 2011:

Website for Biblical Pastoral is going on, with rich contributions such as sketches of homilies, exegetical presentations, texts for Lectio Divina, news: www.kinhthanhvn.org.

Eventual publication of booklets to explain God’s Word according to the different ages.

Publication of the manuals on Holy Scripture, especially on Lectio Divina.

Publication of books to present Sunday readings, and biblical meditations.

4. Projects for the coming year:

The vision is suggested by the Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini, the 2010 Congress of God’s People in Vietnam, the post-Congress Letter 1st May 2011 (determining the orientations of the life and activities of the Church in Vietnam, in service of God’s Kingdom, kingdom of truth, life, justice, love and peace).

Under the light of these events and documents, we’ll work on these points:

  1. Scripture with God’s People: Publish documents on the “Lectio Divina” and promote this method of praying reading Word in the families and in private.
  2. Scripture and Liturgy: Promote the biblical Pastoral, offer hermeneutic and present God’s Word according to the liturgical texts.
  3. Holy Scripture in the Major Seminaries and the Religious Congregations: Teach and present the manuals on Holy Scripture.
  4. Translation of the Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini in Vietnamese and organize workshops to study this document.
  5. Get the help of the Liturgy of Hours Group in order to provide a pure and clear translation of the whole Bible to the faithful.
  6. Support the Episcopal Commission for the Cult in the translation of the liturgical texts in Vietnamese.

5. Other important reflections:

We are conscious that our duty is to help God’s people to respect Divine Word as Christ’s Body, understand it, and transform it into spiritual food for their souls. For that, we should seek for the cooperation between the other Episcopal Commissions in the future activities. And we should continue our proper ongoing formation on the Holy Scripture. One of the main instrument which helps the studies and the proclamation of God’s Word remains the Internet.
