CBF-SEA BA Link 2008 No. 4

resize-of-copy-of-15emma.jpgDear friends in the Word,

I guess most of us have arrived home safely. Looking back at our experiences during our 5th CBF-SEA workshop we can only be grateful for everything the Lord has given us: Golden Friendship from our Filipino/a friends, and others from the neighboring countries and Germany, inspiring and enriching talks from the speakers who have widened our views, our own sharings and discussions, our liturgies and dances that brought us closer to God and to one another. Yes, it was good to be there in spite of the dark clouds, the mighty winds and the roaring sea.

We had beautiful weather on the last day. But in the evening dark clouds again covered the blue sky. Fr. Dom’s pilot, however, found a hole to escape and fly to Manila. Back home in Vigan, he immediately updated our website

https://cbfsea.wordpress.com

Please visit the website. You’ll find our story in text and pictures. Thumbs up, very well done, Fr. Doms!!! He also added a new page to store the materials of the workshop which you can easily download. The new page is on the right side, entitled 5th Workshop. Some of the materials are already there. The remaining materials will be published as soon as soon as Fr. Doms has time. They will stay there for a limited time only, so better download them soon.

We also know that our workshop is not yet finished. We left one question unanswered and did not make a summary. We could not concentrate on the workshop questions anymore because we were so bothered by the weather and plane cancellations and change of trip itinerary. Perhaps now that you are settled back in your respective places, you can still work on it. Attached you find a schema graph and we invite everybody who participated in the Workshop to fill it up. The spaces can be widened once they are filled up. Then kindly send it to stellamaris_ph@yahoo.com;

Thank you so much! God bless us while we, his ambassadors, proclaim the Word, source of reconciliation, justice and peace.

Yours in the Lord,

Sr. Emma Gunanto, OSU

The sub-region of Southeast Asia (SEA) of the Catholic Biblical Federation (CBF) a “Catholic world fellowship of administratively distinct international and local organizations committed to the biblical-pastoral ministry, created to carry out the recommendations of the II Vatican Council concerning the Bible gathered together “like a family reunion” in Cagayan de Oro City last February 11-17, 2008 for their 5th Sub-regional Biblical Workshop on the occasion of the 17th National Bible Workshop organized by the Episcopal Commission for the Biblical Apostolate of the CBCP. The twin workshops convened at the Cha-Li Beach Resort and Conference Center in Cugman of the said City of Golden Friendship with the theme: “Word of God, Source of Justice, Reconciliation and Peace!” met an outstanding success inspite of the inclement weather throughout the week.

Sr. Emma Gunanto, OSU the sub-regional coordinator of the CBF-SEA based in Bandung, Indonesia together with Ms. Estrella C. del Mar the treasurer and local organizer based in Cebu Lay Formation Center of the Archdiocese of Cebu painstakingly organized the 5th CBF-SEA workshop (through the cyberspace – internet) of ten countries of Southeast Asia so as to prepare the members for the coming VII CBF Plenary Assembly in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Africa on June 24 to July 3 this year with the same theme. The objectives of the meeting – workshop were:

  1. To reflect with the Speakers on the Word of God as Source of Justice, Reconciliation and Peace;
  2. To apply these reflections to our own situations;
  3. To review our current pastoral actions and find new ways and means to promote justice and peace with Sacred Scriptures;
  4. To share what we are doing in our own small ways for the enrichment of all;
  5. To situate our SEA role in the work towards World Peace.

Twenty five (25) member participants attended the sub-regional workshop led by the General Secretary Mr. Alexander Schweitzer from the CBF in Stuttgart, Germany, Most Rev. Arturo Bastes, SVD DD the bishop chairman of ECBA-CBCP, Most Rev. Renato P. Mayugba, DD of JPIBC, Fr.
